IBM ThinkPad T43

The IBM ThinkPad T43 features a bevy of cutting-edge components, along with a sturdy, thoughtfully designed case.

The T43 come with a nice array of higher-end parts, including a fast 1.86GHz Intel Pentium M 750 processor, 512MB of snappy 533MHz RAM, and ATI Mobility Radeon X300 graphics with 64MB of dedicated video memory. Also onboard was a 60GB hard drive spinning at 7,200rpm and a DVD±RW burner in a hot-swappable bay. The T43’s 14.1-inch screen offers a fine native resolution of 1,400 x 1,050 pixels

The 5.5-pound notebook measures 1.3×12.2×10 inches add another 0.8 pound for the blackboard eraser size AC adapter. The well built T43 has a number of thoughtful touches. You’ll find IBM signature red eraser-head pointing stick. The spill-proof keyboard is wide and comfortable and even has its own drainage holes. A handy fingerprint sensor on the right side of the wrist rest logs you onto the notebook in lieu of typing in a password.

The T43 turned in solid application performance, scoring 219 on the BAPCo MobileMark 2002 test. Equipped with a high-capacity battery, the hardy notebook lasted for a long 5 hours and 6 minutes in the endurance test.

Including all of the useful connections you expect to see, the T43 has a Gigabit Ethernet port, internal 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, and one Type II PC Card slot, but only two USB 2.0 ports. IBM backs the notebook with a lengthy three-year warranty that includes parts-and-labor coverage and 24/7, toll-free tech support.
